Avery Hall carried the ball 28 times for 113 yards and two scores for Indianapolis Cardinal Ritter in a 27-20 win over Beech Grove.

Nate Froelich ran for 113 yards and one score in Westfield’s 21-20 win over Avon.

Mason Landrum carried the ball 15 times for 112 yards and two scores for Huntington North against Leo.

Caden Jones had 21 carries for 109 yards and two scores for Crawfordsville against Lebanon.

Kenny Gillum raced 14 times for 104 yards and three touchdowns for Indianapolis Roncalli in a 35-9 win over Martinsville.

Ryan Wroblewski and Austin Faulkner accumulated more than 100 yards apiece for Mishawaka in its 36-3 win over South Bend Saint Joseph. Wroblewski had 10 runs for 133 yards and three scores, and Faulkner added 124 yards and one touchdown.

Elijah Smith and Martell Williams both went over the 100-yard mark rushing in Lawrence North’s 63-21 loss to Warren Central. Smith had 28 carries for 151 yards and one score, while Williams added 14 runs for 103 yards and one touchdown.

Calvin Thomas and Bryce Jefferson each surpassed the 100-yard mark on the ground for Decatur Central in a 28-14 win over Greenwood. Thomas carried the ball five times for 126 yards and two touchdowns, and Jefferson added 16 runs for 119 yards.

Eric Jones and Zac Montgomery ran for more than 100 yards each for Mount Vernon (Fortville) in a 42-13 win over New Castle. Jones had 20 carries for 130 yards and one score, while Montgomery added 21 touches for 123 yards and three touchdowns.

Edwin Cisneros and Levi Parks tallied over 100 yards rushing apiece for Whiteland in a 28-6 win over Mooresville. Cisneros carried the ball 12 times for 194 yards and one touchdown, while Parks had seven carries for 103 yards and one score.

Sam Richards and Garrett Horn both accumulated over 100 yards rushing in Churubusco’s 42-6 win over Central Noble. Richards tallied 125 yards and two touchdowns, while Horn added 104 yards and three scores.

Ethan Kertai and Rylan Martin scampered for more than 100 yards in LaVille’s 35-7 victory over John Glenn. Kertai had 19 carries for 177 yards and a touchdown, while Martin added 14 runs for 123 yards and two scores.

Lattrell Brown and Marquis Munoz each went over 100 yards on the ground in Lafayette Jeff’s 50-32 win over Richmond. Brown had 26 carries for 176 yards and one score, and Munoz added six runs for 103 yards and three touchdowns.

Isaac Rowan and Landon Barlett both ran for more than 100 yards for South Spencer in a 52-8 win over Forest Park. Rowan had five carries for 154 yards and three touchdowns, and Barlett added 17 touches for 126 yards.

Drew Schultz accumulated three touchdowns in Adams Central’s 42-7 win over Southern Wells.

Kendall Williams accounted for three trips to the end zone in Linton-Stockton’s 61-0 blanking of North Knox.

Gabe Coleman found the end zone twice in defending Class 3A state champion Indianapolis Bishop Chatard’s 23-19 win over Winton Woods (Ohio).

Bennett Sprague and Ethan Lasley both ran for two touchdowns in Seeger’s win over Turkey Run.

Avery Denhart completed 25-of-44 passes for 395 yards and two touchdowns for Lafayette Central Catholic against West Lafayette.

Trenton Hatfield accounted for more than 350 yards of offense in Muncie Central’s 38-33 win over Marion. Hatfield completed 19-of-22 passes for 217 yards and one score and ran 15 times for 137 yards and two touchdowns.

Thomas De’Andre Stone was 14-of-26 for 308 yards and five scores for Marion against Muncie Central.

Trey Powell went 15-of-25 for 306 yards and two scores and ran for another score in Sullivan’s 42-7 win over South Putnam.

Hunter Johnson was 23-of-33 for 302 yards and five touchdowns in Brownsburg’s 38-25 win over Zionsville.

Nathan Williams accumulated almost 300 yards of offense for Elkhart Memorial in a 52-21 loss to NorthWood. Williams threw for 188 yards and two scores and ran for 102 yards.

Christian Schabel finished 20-of-27 for 287 yards and four touchdowns and also ran for a score in Danville’s 41-22 win over Frankfort.

In addition to throwing a pair of passes for scores, Gunnar Large added two scores on the ground in New Palestine’s win over Shelbyville.

John Lux tossed two touchdown passes to his cousin, Damon Lux, for Shelbyville against New Palestine.

Alec Craig threw for two touchdowns and ran for a third score in Tippecanoe Valley’s 21-7 win over Rochester.

Dean Tate and David Bell each had over 100 yards receiving in Warren Central’s win over Lawrence North. Tate had two catches for 103 yards and two touchdowns and Bell added five receptions for 102 yards and one score.

Dontea Henderson and Xavier Fuller both had more than 100 receiving yards for Marion against Muncie Central. Henderson had three catches for 114 yards and three scores, and Fuller added three receptions for 100 yards and a touchdown.

Trevor Teumac’s eight-yard reception from Bryce Tomasi with 38 seconds left gave Mishawaka Marian a 21-17 win over New Prairie and a share of the Northern Indiana South Division championship.

Walker Massey had a pair of touchdown receptions and an interception for Evansville Mater Dei against Evansville Bosse.

Caleb Quick’s 54-yard field goal with 11 seconds remaining lifted Guerin Catholic to a 13-10 win over Brebeuf Jesuit.

Cole VanSlyke returned interception of 34 and 54 yards for scores in Mount Vernon’s (Fortville) win over New Castle.

Paul Moala returned a punt 55 yards and a kickoff 49 yards for touchdowns in Penn’s 51-0 blanking of South Bend Clay.

Landon McPheeters not only ran for a touchdown, but also returned a kickoff 82 yards for another tally in West Washington’s win over Perry Central.

Along with running for 135 yards, Bryant Fitzgerald also recorded 19 tackles for Avon against Westfield.

In addition to catching a pass for a score, R.J. Potts also returned an interception for a touchdown in Fishers’ win over Indianapolis Cathedral.

Colt Wagner came up with an interception and fumble recovery in North Newton’s 13-12 win over South Central.

Mason Beck converted field goals of 37 and 40 yards for South Bend Adams against Elkhart Central.

Garrett Ruiz took a kickoff back 90 yards for a score in New Prairie’s loss to Mishawaka Marian.

Odiase’s big blocks help Flames build on winning streak

UIC center Tai Odiase threw a one-man block party Saturday and the outstanding effort helped propel the Flames to their second consecutive victory, 79-77, over Northern Kentucky.

The Flames host Detroit Friday and Oakland Sunday at the UIC Pavilion.

Odiase matched the best single-game mark in program history Saturday as he turned away a career-high nine shots. He is the seventh player in the NCAA, and first in the Horizon League, to block at least nine shots in a single game this season. The Glenwood native has been on a defensive tear of late and has catapulted himself into sixth place on UIC’s all-time list with 119 rejections.

The 6-foot-9 center saved his biggest block for last Saturday against the Norse. Trailing by two, Northern Kentucky called timeout with possession and 11.8 seconds left on the clock. The visitors got the ball into the hands of Drew McDonald and the freshman drove to the right, where Odiase greeted him at the rim and rejected his effort. The UIC sophomore kept the ball from going out of bounds, corralled the rebound and flipped it Najeal Young as time expired, sealing the victory for the Flames.

The Flames needed a second-half comeback to knock off the Horizon League’s newest member. Both teams slogged through much of the first half.

UIC quickly erased the halftime deficit and tied the score at 39 each. Northern Kentucky countered and it gained an eight-point edge with 14:01 left in the contest. The Flames soon knotted the score up when Dikembe Dixson splashed down one of his two three-pointers just over three minutes later.

With 9:14 remaining in regulation, UIC grabbed the lead for good.

On the offensive end, Dixson and Gabe Snider were paramount to the second-half comeback. Dixson scored 17 points, including eight from the free-throw line, and Snider buried three of his five three-point attempts down the stretch.

Local Report: Little League title games on tap

Del Sur Mortgage, the Napa National Little League baseball champion in the Minor A Division, will take an 18-0 record into Saturday’s city championship game against Napa American champion Carl’s Auto Body (9-7-2) at Garfield Park’s Volunteer Field.

Other city title matchups set for 1 p.m. Saturday at Garfield Park will be Rasmusen Painting against Fire in the Major Division on Baumgartner Field, and Ranch Markets against Snap-On Tools in the Minor B Division on Cardwell Field.

Rasmusen Painting’s players are Cole Capitani, Ethan Castelazo, Carson Hall, Christoph Horton, Cameron Jordan, Jaxon Oden, Eleazid Rojas, Robert Ruiz, Connor Smith, Jacob Umali, Austin Whitehead and Elliott Zuidema. The manager is Billy Smith and the coaches are Jason Hall, Billy Whitehead and Mark Castelazo.

Napa Valley Baseball Club

The Napa 19’s went 3-1 in the recent Memorial Weekend Tournament at Woodland High.

On May 28, Napa opened with a 10-5 win over West Sacramento.

Going 3 for 4 to lead the team at the plate were leadoff hitter Jaksen Wilson, who also walked and scored twice, and No. 9 hitter Felipe Gonzalez. Ross Henderson was 2 for 2 with a double, three runs and two walks, and Tyler Rustice went 2 for 3 with a walk and run.

Also with hits were Juan Carlos Lopez-Rios (1 for 5, run), Jason Brandow (1 for 3, double, two runs, walk), Luke Lipanovich (1 for 3, hit by pitch, run) and Jacob Ray (1 for 3, walk).

Daniel Gonzalez pitched first two innings, allowing three runs on five hits, a walk and a strikeout. Nick Akey pitched the next four, yielding one run on a hit, walk and strikeout, and Felipe Gonzalez pitched the last inning, giving up one run and two hits, and hitting a batter and striking out two.

In the first of two games on May 29, Napa scored three runs in the second to take the lead for good in a six-inning 8-2 win over Haggin-Grant of Sacramento. Rustice and Lipanovich combined to strike out eight and allow only two baserunners in five shutout relief innings.

Ray was 4 for 4 with three RBIs and three runs, Nick Akey 3 for 3 with two RBIs, a sacrifice fly and two runs, and Jake Rasmusen 3 for 4 with an RBI, run and stolen base to lead the way. Wilson was 2 for 4 with a run, walk and stolen base, and Justin Harp went 2 for 2 with a run. Also hitting were Lopez-Rios (1 for 4, run), Henderson (1 for 2, walk), Lipanovich (1 for 3, walk, two stolen bases) and Rustice (1 for 1, walk).

That afternoon, Napa fell 8-3 to an experienced Merced squad. Rustice (1 for 3, two RBIs, run) hit a two-run homer in in the sixth to pull Napa within 4-3, but Merced answered with four runs in the seventh on a triple, double, single and two walks.

Also with hits were Lopez-Rios (2 for 3, run), Max Phipps (1 for 2, walk, run), Wilson (1 for 4, RBI), Brandow (1 for 3), Akey (1 for 3) and Harp (1 for 2, walk).

Napa finished strong with an 11-5 rout of Yuba City on May 31, breaking open a 5-4 game with six runs in the sixth.

Lipanovich was 2 for 3 with two doubles, two RBIs and a run, Ray went 2 for 4 with an RBI double, RBI single and two runs, and Rustice was 2 for 4 with a run and a two-run single in the sixth. Other hits came from Joe Canepa (1 for 2, RBI single, two runs), Wilson (1 for 5, RBI single, run), Rasmusen (1 for 4, run), Lopez-Rios (1 for 3, RBI sacrifice fly, run) and Henderson (1 for 4, RBI double, run).

Felipe Gonzalez pitched first three innings, allowing three runs on five hits, a walk and six strikeouts. Rustice pitched last four, yielding one run on five hits, two walks and four strikeouts.

Raiders beat WMU in NCAA Regionals on Saturday

The Wright State baseball team tied the school single-season record for wins Saturday afternoon, scoring in six of nine innings to defeat Western Michigan 10-3 in a NCAA Regional elimination game at Jim Patterson Stadium in Louisville, Kentucky.

The Raiders jumped out to a quick 2-0 lead in the first.  Matt Morrow started the game with a hit to right and Peyton Burdick drew a one-out walk.  One out later, Sean Murphy walked to load the bases and Gabe Snyder followed with a single deep behind the bag at second to drive in Morrow and Burdick.

WMU, though, answered with two of its own in the bottom of the first and it stayed that way until WSU took the lead for good with a run in the third as Burdick walked and Ryan Fucci plated him with a double down the left field line.

Wright State extended the lead to 5-2 with two more in the fourth.  After a John Brodner walk, a Zach Weatherford bunt hit and Morrow moving both runners into scoring position with another bunt, Mitch Roman delivered a two-run double to right center.

JD Orr made it 7-2 with a two-run single in the fifth and the margin grew to 9-2 an inning later as Burdick singled in Morrow and later scored on a Murphy triple to right center.

The Raiders rounded out their scoring in the seventh on an Orr double followed by a Brodner hit to right.

Robby Sexton (7-3) was in control after allowing the two runs in the first, giving up just a run on three hits and a walk over his final 5.2 innings of work, retiring 15 straight batters in one stretch.  Logan Blair closed out the game with 2.1 shutout innings.

With the victory, Wright State (45-16) tied the 1989 squad, which finished 45-12 in the program’s second season in Division I, for the most single-season wins in school history.

Offensively, Morrow, Roman, Fucci, Murphy, Orr and Brodner each had two hits with Burdick scoring three times and Morrow twice.  Roman, Snyder and Orr each drove in two.

Wright State will face Ohio State in another elimination contest on Sunday at noon.  Should the Raiders win that one, they would face Louisville later Sunday at 4:00.
